AMD plans to release the Ryzen 7 5800X3D at the end of March, or this month. This would be consistent with AMD’s previous announcement, which stated that the product would be available in spring 2022.

Greymon55 is the source of the leak, and their predictions have shown to be correct in the past when it comes to AMD technology. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D “has been shipped and will most likely be on the market by the end of this month,” according to them.

On top of the 32MB of a standard 5800X, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D has 64MB of vertically stacked cache. This brings the overall L3 cache to 96MB. At the ISSCC conference last week, AMD disclosed some of the technical aspects of its 3D stacking technology.

It has an 8-core/16-thread CPU with a 3.4GHz base clock and a 4.5GHz boost clock. Despite its lower boost speed than the 4.7GHz of the normal Ryzen 7 5800X, AMD claims the 5800X3D may give up to 15% more performance than the regular Ryzen 7 5800X. At 105W, the TDP remains unchanged.

It’s probable because of the TDP that we’ll only see an 8-core 3D processor and not a 5900X3D or 5950X3D. AMD needs to keep the TDP of the 5800X3D at 105W. (or 142W peak).

Due to the fact that the 5800X3D has already been downclocked, adding the extra cache to a 5900X or 5950X would need even more downclocking, negating the benefits of adding the cache in the first place.

Because an eight-core CPU is the current gaming sweet spot, the 5800X is a natural candidate for the V-Cache treatment, as games benefit from a fast, low-latency cache.
Just a few days ago, we talked about the 5800X3D. Gigabyte is the first company to produce a BIOS that supports the 5800X3D graphics card.

This is one another sign that the 5800X3D will be released soon. Although the technology is intriguing, will it translate to real-world performance? It will compete with Intel’s Core i9 12900KS processor.
